Stevenson, Ronald James (1928–2015), composer, pianist, and writer on music, was born at 4 Stirling Street, Blackburn, Lancashire, on 6 March 1928, the younger son of George Stevenson, a railway engine fireman of Scottish Protestant stock, and his wife, Elizabeth, née Blundell, who was of Welsh Catholic extraction and had been a weaver in the local cotton mills.
